Inheritance | The Daily Post
I can only discuss Inheritance from my parents to me as I never married nor had children so after my brother and I pass away this branch of the family ends.
The most precious things I inherited from my parents and ancestors are honest, hidden strength, common sense, kindness, compassion, wisdom and understanding. Yes they did leave me some material goods which I treasure but one’s inner character is more important.
In terms of my Love and Passion in regards to Photography I highly value the photographs and Kodak Kodachrome slides my Dad left me. I no longer have the slide projector to show the slides but I hope one day to get the slides digitized. I read that the African American Smithsonian Museum is digitizing photographs, cassette tapes, VHS tapes specifically for African Americans. So far the information did not mention anything about Kodak Slides but I will keep checking for information. Since I don’t have children I will probably leave all my family historical documents divided between the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and the African American Smithsonian Museum.

The below photos are of my Dad’s side. Sadly I have very few photos of my Mom’s family mostly because they were poor coal miners in West Virginia some of whom moved to Dayton, Ohio and New Jersey. They could not afford to have professional photos taken.
Gravestone of my Great, Great Grandfather William Henry Halstead who fought in the Civil War 29th Ct. Colored Regiment. He is buried in Sleepy Hollow, New York

I too, do not have children and have photos and stories to leave for donations. I am hoping that those after us (anyone) can appreciate what families did for us to succeed today. I loved the photos and as you, I treasure them.
Thanks. I’m going to contact both museums to make arrangements for them to receive my history items.
How beautiful are your photos and your family, Deborah. Surely they will continue your legacy. ❤
Only those who have children have a legacy. I will only be donating historical family members. Any photos with me in them will go in the garbage. After I die I will be forgotten which as it should be. I have no worthy contributions.
I understand what you’re saying, and you are right to a degree, Deborah. But you have blessed me. I doubt I ever forget you.
Such a wonderful collection of pictures! The story they tell is a legacy to the future even if it’s not to your own children.
